Safety in the Clouds

Earlier this week I wrote a piece on Cloud Security and how I thought there is a perception that security is a risk in the cloud however the reality is that a properly run cloud service delivers enhanced security.

Yesterday I discovered an article in the Wall Street Journal which suggests this perception is changing.

In 2008 IDC asked business what factors where most likely to discourage them from using cloud computing, 72% of small business and 63% of mid sized businesses said security was their chief worry.

By mid 2011 these figures had dropped to 50% and 47%.

So pretty good progress but still a long way to go. It will take time, but we have always believed that the long term benefits of the cloud will continue to expand it's adoption and eventually be the de facto way of delivering services.
