Going the Extra Mile for the GivingVoice Foundation

This article was published on May 26, 2020

December is the season of goodwill, so what better time to tell you about the work we've been doing for the GivingVoice Foundation throughout 2012!

It’s been an important year for personal challenges, with many NewVoiceMedia staff making use of our matched funding scheme to raise money for the causes most important to them.

Here we grow!

In May, a team led by technical consultant Chris Haggis, got on their bikes to complete the 33 mile Thames Bridges Bike Ride, raising £730.

Rahi Rahman also got pedalling, taking on the legendary London to Brighton bike ride and successfully raising £400.

And serial charity challenge conqueror Justin Wheatley raised £1,390 by completing the Reading half marathon.

Before we knew it, Movember was upon us and a team of seven ‘Mo Bros’ groomed and trimmed their way into the annals of fine moustachery, raising £1,892 to help fight prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Their Fan-tache-tic efforts also supported Oasis International, a charity that transforms the lives of people living in Mumbai, where poverty is pervasive.

The year ended in style with the company congregating for our Christmas party. Everyone donated generously to the GivingVoice raffle which boasted a fantastic array of prizes, including a week's holiday to Portugal courtesy of Prestige Network Properties. Importantly, we managed to raise £2,000 for Naomi House, a children’s hospice in Hampshire offering respite care to sick children and their families.

Not only did the team raise money, they also donated their time. We took on a number of skills-based projects this year, from IT and website building activities, to telemarketing, whereby the team spent a week on a calling campaign for The Brain Tumour Trust.

We also had great pleasure in welcoming the Salesforce Biz Academy to the NVM offices to talk to them about how to succeed in an interview and teach social media skills.

We are looking forward to increasing our charity work in 2013, through an innovative and practical approach and ingraining it into our business culture.
